Zeolite
Zeolites are crystallized hydrated tectosilicates which have tiny pores with 1-20 Angstroms in diameter. They have got exchangeable cations in their structure from the alkali metals group (sodium and potassium) and alkaline earth metals (calcium and magnesium) and they can absorb and release water reversibility without changing in their structure. The most important properties of Zeolites are including; cation exchange property, high water absorbency, increase the amount of free space, reduce the density with the loss of water (become dehydrated), stability of the crystallized structure during the loss of water and various physical properties such as electrical conductivity, adsorption properties of gases and vapors, catalytic properties and characteristics of molecular sieves.
Applications:
1- Water refinement (reduce water hardness, sewage treatment plant, wastewater treatment plant from agricultural activities, extracting ammonia from sewage, …)
2- Construction of lightweight building blocks
3- Livestock and poultry nourishment (disinfection of poultry litter, animal and aquatic feed)
4- Agriculture and gardening (fertilizer of the soils, better distribution of fertilizers, soil amendment, preparation of the fertilizer, absorption of the heavy metals in soil, floriculture, …)
5- Manufacture of Oxygen

زئوليت¬ها تكتو سيليكات¬هاي هيدارته متبلور و با منافذي ريز به قطر 1 تا 20 آنگسترم هستند كه در ساختمان خود داراي كاتيون¬هاي قابل تبادلي از گروه فلزات قليايي (سديم و پتاسيم) و قليايي خاكي (كلسيم و منيزيم) بوده و قادرند بدون تغيير در ساختمان خود، آب را بطور برگشت پذيري جذب و آزاد نمايند. از خواص عمده زئوليت¬ها ميتوان به خاصيت تبادل کاتيوني، قدرت جذب آب زياد، افزايش ميزان فضاي خالي و کاهش چگالي و تراکم آن¬ها با از دست دادن آب(دهيدراته شدن)، پايداري ساختمان بلوري اغلب زئوليت¬ها هنگام از دست دادن آب و خواص فيزيکي متنوع از قبيل هدايت الکتريکي، خاصيت جذب سطحي گازها و بخارها، خواص کاتاليتيکي و خاصيت غربال مولکول اشاره کرد.
از عمده کاربردهاي زئوليت مي توان به موارد زير اشاره نمود:
1- تصفيه آب (کاهش سختي آب، تصفيه فاضلاب ها ، تصفيه آب هاي آلوده حاصل از فعاليت هاي کشاورزي، استخراج آمونياک از فاضلاب ها و ...)
2- ساخت بلوک هاي ساختماني سبک
3- پرورش دام و طيور( گندزدايي از بستر دام و طيور، خوراک دام، طيور و آبزيان و ...)
4- کشاورزي و باغباني (حاصلخيز کننده خاک و بهبود توزيع حاصلخيز کننده ها، تهويه و اصلاح خاک، تهيه کود، جذب فلزات سنگين موجود در خاک، پرورش گل و ...)
